How to Correct a Director’s Date of Birth at Companies House (and Why It Matters)

If a director’s date of birth is incorrect at Companies House, it cannot be corrected through a confirmation statement or standard online filing.

Instead, a correction request must be submitted using Form RP02A under the Registrar’s Rules. This process can take unnecessary time and stress to correct the legal documents that are published on the public register.

Incorrect identity details can delay filings, affect authorised agent access and create problems during Companies House identity verification checks as reforms were introduced between 2025 and 2026.

When working with an accountant it is important that they can obtain authorised agent access in order to complete filing submission on your behalf and without risking late filing penalty’s or worse criminal prosecution. In the first conviction of its kind companies house said

‘Deliberately filing false information on the register is a serious offence and people who have been found to have knowingly done this can face prosecution’

The company register is operated by Companies House and contains information about company addresses, accounts, and those who own and run companies. There are nearly 4 million companies on the UK’s company register and the vast majority of these companies use the register lawfully.

Checking director details now helps avoid disruption later when identity verification becomes mandatory.
